Madison County, NC
Vol 01: Spring Creek
Madison County, NC - Vol 01: Spring Creek gathers the voices of a small Appalachian valley in western North Carolina, where stories flow like the creek itself—steady, rooted, and full of life. Told by lifelong residents inside the old Spring Creek School, now the community center, these oral histories capture memories of farming, family, and faith in one of Madison County’s most enduring communities.
Created through the Appalachian Memory Project with support from the Dogwood Health Trust Digital Opportunities Grant and the Spring Creek Community Center, this first volume preserves the people and place that continue to shape the heart of Spring Creek.
The Appalachian Memory Project (AMP) pilot program is a partnership with the Spring Creek Community Center (SCCC) and other community centers around Madison County to collect and archive oral histories and images from residents. With success we hope to expand the program to other Appalachian counties across North Carolina in early 2026.
